"Every open water swim is different. Different venue, different conditions. You can only get that perspective from being in the water. You just swim in nature. It's amazing."

Common questions
What is Wild Open Water?
Wild Open Water is a free platform for open water swimmers in the UK. We combine live tide, temperature, and water quality data from authoritative sources (NOAA, ECMWF, the British Oceanographic Data Centre, and the Environment Agency) with community-verified reports to help you plan safer, smarter swims.
How do I find wild swimming spots near me?
Use the search bar to find spots by name, location, or type: beach, river, lake, or pool. You can also explore our interactive map to discover swim spots across the UK. Each spot page shows live conditions, community notes, and safety information.
Where does your data come from?
We aggregate data from the same institutions that governments and meteorological agencies rely on. NOAA and SMHI provide satellite ocean temperature and buoy measurements. ECMWF and GFS power our weather and marine forecasts, the same models behind BBC Weather and the Met Office. NOAA and the British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC) supply tide predictions. The Environment Agency provides official UK bathing water quality classifications. Plus 40,000+ community reports from real swimmers fill in what instruments can't measure.
Is the data updated in real time?
Yes. Tide predictions, weather forecasts, and water quality classifications refresh continuously from our data providers. Community reports include recency indicators so you can judge how current they are.
How accurate is the water temperature data?
Ocean temperatures come from measured satellite and buoy data via NOAA and SMHI. Lake and river temperatures use peer-reviewed scientific models with published accuracy metrics. Each reading includes confidence intervals and model provenance so you know exactly what you're looking at.
Can I contribute swim reports?
Yes! Create a free account and share conditions, tips, and updates at any swim spot. Community reports include timestamps and recency signals so other swimmers know how current your intel is.
Is Wild Open Water free?
Wild is free to use — every spot, live conditions and safety data. Wild Pro (optional) adds the full 7-day outlook — conditions, temperature and tides.
