Built by swimmers, for swimmers
Wild Open Water exists because we got tired of checking five different apps before a swim. So we built one that brings everything together.

Our Mission
Open water swimming is one of the most rewarding things you can do. But it demands respect. Conditions change fast: tides turn, temperatures drop, water quality fluctuates. Making good decisions depends on having good information.
Wild Open Water aggregates live data from the same authoritative sources that governments and meteorological agencies rely on, including NOAA, ECMWF, SMHI, the British Oceanographic Data Centre, and the Environment Agency, and combines it with 40,000+ community reports from real swimmers. The result is a single place where you can check conditions, discover spots, and plan swims with confidence.
Our Data Sources
NOAA
US government satellite ocean data, buoy networks, and tidal predictions. Sea surface temperatures and GFS weather models.
ECMWF
The same prediction models that power BBC Weather and the Met Office. Weather forecasts, WaveWatch III marine data, and GloFAS river discharge.
SMHI
Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute. Ocean temperature and marine weather data for Northern European waters.
BODC
British Oceanographic Data Centre. UK tidal predictions and sea level data from the National Oceanography Centre.
Environment Agency
Official UK bathing water quality: E. coli and enterococci measurements, annual compliance, and pollution risk forecasts.
Community
40,000+ reports from real swimmers. Timestamped and on-the-ground. No data source beats local knowledge.
Scientific Integrity
Where we estimate water temperature for lakes and rivers, we use peer-reviewed scientific models with full citations. Every model parameter is traceable to a published paper. We show you the accuracy margins, the calibration dataset, and a link to the original research.
We never fabricate data, adjust published formulas, or overstate accuracy. If a model was calibrated on French lakes and you're swimming in Scotland, we tell you that. You deserve to know what you're looking at.
