About

Experience this spot in Nonza. Great location for swimming and paddling, kayaking, canoeing, surfing, supping, wind surfing, body surfing and body boarding. Nonza is a small village located on a rocky headland on the west coast of Corsica, in the French region of Haute-Corse. The village lies on the slopes of a mountain range that stretches out to the west and east, while to the north spreads the vast expanse of the Mediterranean sea. The area is characterized by its rugged, mountainous terrain, dotted with olive groves, vineyards, and dense forests of oak, pine, and chestnut trees. The landscape is untouched and wild, covered in a rich array of flora, such as heather, wildflowers, and thyme. The village of Nonza itself is a collection of ancient stone houses, clustered together on a steep slope that drops off towards the sea. At the top of the village stands a ruined Genoese tower, a reminder of the island's turbulent history. The tower serves as a vantage point, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape and the sea beyond. The cliffs surrounding Nonza are a striking reddish-brown color, contrasting with the deep blue of the sea below. The beach, located at the foot of the village, is covered in soft, white sand, ideal for sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling. All in all, the area around Nonza is a spectacular, unspoiled natural paradise, with pristine beaches, rugged mountains, and a rich cultural history to explore.

Plan your swim

Before you go

  • Check tide times before entering. Incoming tides can cut off escape routes.
  • Watch for rip currents, especially near groynes and headlands
  • Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
  • Always swim with others or tell someone your plan
  • A tow float makes you visible to boats and other water users

Conditions change fast. Always check the latest data, read recent community reports, and swim within your ability.

Frequently asked questions

Is this beach safe for swimming?

Check the Conditions tab for current wave height, swell and wind. Review the Quality tab for the latest Environment Agency classification. Always read recent community reports for local knowledge.

When is the best time to swim here?

Check the Tides tab for today's high and low times. Many coastal spots are best around high tide when there's enough water depth, or during slack water when currents are weakest.

What should I bring?

A tow float for visibility, warm layers for after, and footwear for rocky entries. In colder months, consider a wetsuit, gloves, and a swim cap.
