About

A gentle river swim between two weirs. Park at Carlton Lees car park. £5 but free after 6pm. about 10 min walk to entry point. swim 'up' river, but very little current, then back to point of entry. Reasonable place for newbies, but lovely for experienced swimmers too. Plenty of sheep, deer, ducks and herons. VERY popular area for non swimmers during good weather, lots of families and groups that usually leave lots of litter sadly. Suggest wearing swim shoes. Technically swimming not permitted.

Plan your swim

Before you go

  • Check recent rainfall. Rivers rise fast after heavy rain.
  • Never swim in fast-flowing or flooded water
  • Test entry/exit before you commit. River banks can be undercut.
  • Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
  • Watch for submerged obstacles like branches, weirs, and rocks

Conditions change fast. Always check the latest data, read recent community reports, and swim within your ability.
