Beautiful white sandy beach with volcanic outcrops in a sheltered cove, with gorgeous views of the Small Isles. The bay is probably around 500m across, not too deep, the seabed is usually visible. A long way from the nearest settlement and help, no nearby cafes but a stunning place to swim
Location
Getting there
Would be a good place to cycle around 13 miles along a narrow single track road alongside beautiful Loch Sween or drive there and park in small off road area by Kilmory Chapel. Walk about 0.5km down grassy stony track to the beach, some places could get boggy after rain. Fairly easy walking but not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies. Good place for kids & dogs but dogs must be kept under control as there are likely to be sheep around the beach
Accessibility
Easy gentle walk-in to water over sand.

Plan your swim
Before you go
- Check tide times before entering. Incoming tides can cut off escape routes.
- Watch for rip currents, especially near groynes and headlands
- Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
- Always swim with others or tell someone your plan
- A tow float makes you visible to boats and other water users

Check the Conditions tab for current wave height, swell and wind. Review the Quality tab for the latest Environment Agency classification. Always read recent community reports for local knowledge.
When is the best time to swim here?
Check the Tides tab for today's high and low times. Many coastal spots are best around high tide when there's enough water depth, or during slack water when currents are weakest.
What should I bring?
A tow float for visibility, warm layers for after, and footwear for rocky entries. In colder months, consider a wetsuit, gloves, and a swim cap.
