The area is known for its beautiful countryside, rolling hills, and patchwork fields of sunflowers, wheat, and vineyards. The town itself has a charming old center with narrow streets, a 12th-century Romanesque church, and small shops and cafes for visitors to enjoy. The region is also dotted with quaint villages, chateaux, and historic landmarks such as the Church of Saint-Hilaire in Melle and the Château de La Rochefoucauld. A tow float for visibility (especially important where boats operate), warm layers for after, and consider a wetsuit in colder months. Check for designated swimming areas.
