About

Lynford Water (East Lake) is a stunning lake with a soft/gravel bottom (water filled gravel pit). The lake and the surrounding trails are open to the public to enjoy long walks and picnics by the lake. Forestry England have now granted permission to the first Open Water Swimming Club to run supervised swimming sessions every Sunday between 9am - 12noon. These sessions are run by Peak Open Water Sports all year round (www.peakopenwatersports.com) and sessions are suitable for a range of ages and abilities. Beginners workshops and triathlon endurance sessions are often offered as a part of the offer too. Kayaks and Paddle boards are not permitted unless part of Peak Open Water Sports or SUPwhales who operate on certain days. The water is clear and extremely inviting in summer months. Parking is currently free (subject to change in 2025) and there is a coffee hut with toilets too. Dog friendly and perfect for families.

  • Lake water can be much colder below the surface (thermocline)
  • Stay close to shore until you know the conditions
  • Watch for boat traffic and stay visible with a tow float
  • Check for blue-green algae warnings before swimming

Conditions change fast. Always check the latest data, read recent community reports, and swim within your ability.
