About

A great open open stretch of river near the Colber bridge on the River Stour. There's a footpath leading to the water from town where you can enjoy a long swim up or down stream.

Location

Getting there

600m from the public car park in town by the old railway line and Hansons Fabrics. Walk to town, cross the road then down The Row where there is a foot path down to the river.

Accessibility

Easiest spot to get in and out is by the old railway bridge. Turn right at Colber Brodge and follow the public footpath. Just after the bridge there is a bank (a bit muddy) and a tree where it's quite shallow and easy to get in and out.

Plan your swim

Before you go

  • Check recent rainfall. Rivers rise fast after heavy rain.
  • Never swim in fast-flowing or flooded water
  • Test entry/exit before you commit. River banks can be undercut.
  • Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
  • Watch for submerged obstacles like branches, weirs, and rocks

Conditions change fast. Always check the latest data, read recent community reports, and swim within your ability.
