It is located near the border of Russia and surrounded by beautiful forests, lakes, and rivers. The area is known as Pielisen Karjala, and it is characterized by its pristine nature and rich cultural heritage. The scenery in Lieksa is dominated by the Pielinen lake, the fourth largest lake in Finland, which is surrounded by hills covered in dense forests. The landscape is dotted with lakes, rivers and rapids and there are several outdoor activity opportunities such as hiking, canoeing, skiing, and fishing. The Koli National Park is an essential attraction, offering hiking trails and spectacular views from the top of the Koli hill. The area is also known for its traditional Karelian culture, with many Karelian-style houses and buildings, as well as local events and festivals celebrating Karelian cuisine, music, and dance.
