- National trust car park is £2 for 2 hours. £4 all day, take change as parking app is 20p more. - Weir is a minute walk from car park. - Best place to get in the weir is down by the large tree you will see directly in front as you get to the field. - You will get muddy getting in and out - You can stand up in alot of the water so very safe - As of 2026 there is no steps or changing area (not sure if there ever was, previous review mentions it?) - Keep clear of the dam and you should have no problems - I haven't been in the height of summer yet but have been on a couple of 20c days and there was only 1 person in the water on a paddle board and as for swimmers in general l i have only ever seen one other so it does not get overcrowded

A bit tricky to get back out after swimming, we eventually found a set of rocks to use as stepping stones, you may need a friend to help. A bit round and round but we enjoyed rebelling and went anticlockwise. A nice setting.

The national trust have put steps and a changing area for swimmers. To access, walk anticlockwise (to the left) of the lake as you face the weir, and almost as you reach the lock keepers cottage you'll see the steps and willow fence change area. Avoid the Weir itself, especially in winter and after rainfall when the water is fast flowing. Swim keeping to edges of Weir pool and avoid the channel from Weir pool to river as there are thick weeds. You'll meet paddle boarders and in season fishermen.

About

Buscot Weir is a weir pool where water cascades over a small fall, near the town of Lechlade. The Buscot Weir Car Park is a National Trust car park; free for members but pay and display for non-members. From the car park, it is only a short walk to the lock and weir. It can be difficult getting in and old of the weir due to mud. Would advise water shoes.

Plan your swim

Before you go

  • Check recent rainfall. Rivers rise fast after heavy rain.
  • Never swim in fast-flowing or flooded water
  • Test entry/exit before you commit. River banks can be undercut.
  • Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
  • Watch for submerged obstacles like branches, weirs, and rocks

Conditions change fast. Always check the latest data, read recent community reports, and swim within your ability.
