About

Experience this spot in Guipavas. Great location for kayaking, canoeing, sailing, walking and wind surfing. Guipavas is a small town located in the Finistère department of the Brittany region in France. It is situated close to the city of Brest and about 5 kilometers away from the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The area around Guipavas is characterized by its rugged coastline with stunning cliffs, sandy beaches, and picturesque harbors. The countryside is mostly agricultural with vast fields of crops, typical of the region. There are also some forests, meadows, and rivers neatly lined with hedgerows where hiking trails and horse riding paths can be found. The town itself is a mix of traditional Breton architecture and modern developments. There are several buildings of historical and cultural significance, including the 16th-century castle of Kerouartz, a gothic-style church, and a few chapels. The town's central square is lined with restaurants, cafes, and shops, along with a weekly outdoor market offering fresh local produce. Overall, Guipavas and its surrounding areas are charming and offer visitors a perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy the authentic Breton lifestyle, culture, and nature.

Plan your swim

Before you go

  • Check tide times before entering. Incoming tides can cut off escape routes.
  • Watch for rip currents, especially near groynes and headlands
  • Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
  • Always swim with others or tell someone your plan
  • A tow float makes you visible to boats and other water users

Conditions change fast. Always check the latest data, read recent community reports, and swim within your ability.

Frequently asked questions

Is this beach safe for swimming?

Check the Conditions tab for current wave height, swell and wind. Review the Quality tab for the latest Environment Agency classification. Always read recent community reports for local knowledge.

When is the best time to swim here?

Check the Tides tab for today's high and low times. Many coastal spots are best around high tide when there's enough water depth, or during slack water when currents are weakest.

What should I bring?

A tow float for visibility, warm layers for after, and footwear for rocky entries. In colder months, consider a wetsuit, gloves, and a swim cap.
