About

A Marine lake dating back almost 100 years, newly dredged and reopened June 2022. The length of the lake along the causeway is 240m. The lake is filled by a high tide every couple of weeks and is a safer location to swim at all tide states other than when it is currently overtopped. The lake will be closed periodically for cleaning and maintenance, the closures, and any other events will be notified on the website; westonmarinelake.co.uk

Location

Getting there

There is paid parking close by, and free parking can be found in nearby streets, but the lake is only 10 minutes walk from the bus terminal and 20 minutes from the train station.

Accessibility

There are currently several options for entering the water. You can enter via a very shallow beach or two sets of steps newly installed on the northern side of the lake. There is an intention to equip the lake with a hoist for people needing assistance to enter and exit the lake. Toilets are available in the RNLI building above the lake (20p). Dogs are not banned but we would prefer they are kept to the upper levels of the lake away from the water for reasons of health and hygiene.

Plan your swim

Before you go

  • Check tide times before entering. Incoming tides can cut off escape routes.
  • Watch for rip currents, especially near groynes and headlands
  • Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
  • Always swim with others or tell someone your plan
  • A tow float makes you visible to boats and other water users

Conditions change fast. Always check the latest data, read recent community reports, and swim within your ability.

Frequently asked questions

Is this beach safe for swimming?

Check the Conditions tab for current wave height, swell and wind. Review the Quality tab for the latest Environment Agency classification. Always read recent community reports for local knowledge.

When is the best time to swim here?

Check the Tides tab for today's high and low times. Many coastal spots are best around high tide when there's enough water depth, or during slack water when currents are weakest.

What should I bring?

A tow float for visibility, warm layers for after, and footwear for rocky entries. In colder months, consider a wetsuit, gloves, and a swim cap.
