About

A good location for high tide swims I this sheltered harbour section of the coast line. You can swim comfortably from the main beach over to the harbour wall. There's steps and ladders out at the harbour wall too if you fancy jumping in like the young ones do. It not great at low tide as there's rocks and stony sand that gets a bit mushy.

Location

Getting there

A 10 min walk from train station or main road. There is extremely limited on street parking so expect to walk down Shore road to gain access. You can park at silversands car park and walk the coastal path however the foot bridge is down and not fixed yet. You could enter from that side but it would be in with the harbour boats which isn't the best idea.

Accessibility

Easy to access the water from the main blacksands beach. Very popular at high season. The nearest toilets etc are at the ShoreRoad play park, the Station or Silversands.

Plan your swim

Before you go

  • Check tide times before entering. Incoming tides can cut off escape routes.
  • Watch for rip currents, especially near groynes and headlands
  • Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
  • Always swim with others or tell someone your plan
  • A tow float makes you visible to boats and other water users

Conditions change fast. Always check the latest data, read recent community reports, and swim within your ability.

Frequently asked questions

Is this beach safe for swimming?

Check the Conditions tab for current wave height, swell and wind. Review the Quality tab for the latest Environment Agency classification. Always read recent community reports for local knowledge.

When is the best time to swim here?

Check the Tides tab for today's high and low times. Many coastal spots are best around high tide when there's enough water depth, or during slack water when currents are weakest.

What should I bring?

A tow float for visibility, warm layers for after, and footwear for rocky entries. In colder months, consider a wetsuit, gloves, and a swim cap.
