Where does the water quality data come from?
We use official Environment Agency bathing water quality data, including E. coli and enterococci bacteria measurements.
How often is water quality updated?
The EA samples bathing waters weekly during the bathing season (May-September). Classifications are updated annually.
What do the classifications mean?
Excellent and Good are the top Environment Agency classifications, based on measured bacteria levels. Sufficient meets the minimum standard. Poor means the water failed the quality standard. Always check current conditions yourself before swimming.
Why do some beaches have pollution warnings?
Heavy rainfall can cause sewage overflows. Warnings are issued when water quality may be temporarily affected.
