About

Experience this spot in Granville. Great location for kayaking, canoeing, sailing, surfing, supping, wind surfing, body surfing, body boarding and kiteboarding. Granville is a coastal town located in the Manche department of Normandie, northern France. The town is situated on a rocky headland that juts out into the English Channel, giving it stunning views of the sea and the surrounding coastline. With its long sandy beaches, clear blue waters, and rugged cliffs, Granville is renowned for its scenic beauty. The town itself is a charming mix of narrow streets, old stone houses, and colorful gardens, with a picturesque port and fishing harbor at its center. Rolling hills dotted with patches of woodland and farmland surround the town, offering plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, and scenic drives. The area is also known for its historic sites, including the nearby Mont Saint Michel, an island commune with a spectacularly perched abbey and fortifications that date back to the Middle Ages.

Plan your swim

Before you go

  • Check tide times before entering. Incoming tides can cut off escape routes.
  • Watch for rip currents, especially near groynes and headlands
  • Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
  • Always swim with others or tell someone your plan
  • A tow float makes you visible to boats and other water users

Conditions change fast. Always check the latest data, read recent community reports, and swim within your ability.

When is the best time to swim here?

Check the Tides tab for today's high and low times. Many coastal spots are best around high tide when there's enough water depth, or during slack water when currents are weakest.

What should I bring?

A tow float for visibility, warm layers for after, and footwear for rocky entries. In colder months, consider a wetsuit, gloves, and a swim cap.
